On the afternoon of Tuesday 15 January, four Y7 students, Sam Prosser, Anya Shield, Emma Nellis and Henry Marshall from QEGS travelled to Milburn Village Hall with Mr Martin to participate in a creative writing workshop with Alan Gibbons.
The acclaimed author started off the session by introducing himself, and talking about some of his books which include “The Shadow of The Minotaur” (which has sold over 100,000 copies,) “An Act of Love,” and “Caught in the Crossfire.”
The second thing that we did in the session was for each of us to do our own writing, based on a 21st century gothic story about Vampires. He talked us through how to build a story, giving us time to write each section as we went along.
The last part of the session involved us composing a poem about what we liked and disliked about ourselves. After the session had finished, he agreed to sign some of his books that people had bought.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and would love to do more creative writing workshops if we had the opportunity. Many thanks to Mr Martin who provided the transport to Milburn and accompanied us for the afternoon.
